Play Day

One of the hardest things I have had to learn about making art is how to let go, how to just play. Being the OCD personality I am, my work has always had to have a purpose, a beginning, middle and end. It is so hard for me to just grab a bunch of supplies and play, but I'm working on it. This past weekend my fabulous friend Karen came over and we played with bees wax and encaustics. And yes I just played and didn't obsess about what it was to be. It just was what it was.

Karen's work is so gorgeous. I love her style. I hadn't done much of anything creative for the past few weeks, outside of photo shoots for the paper, and I really needed some time in the studio. It was so nice to have someone to bounce ideas off of.

So now we have some pieces to play with and a few works in progress. It was fun and very freeing to just play. I should do it more often.

  1. Hi Joyce,
What a great post, and your beautiful photography hides any imperfections for sure. I love how your piece came out. Doesn't that snow and pink flowers look wonderful together?

I played Brag Monday again with the Graphics Fairy. We have to have a Graphics Fairy playdate and create again. I always enjoy our art dates.

  3. Joyce,
I was up late last night. My days and nights seem to be topsy turvy lately. I don't mind though, I seem to be more creative when the world sleeps. Last night I designed a Valentine's Day paper ornament from one of Karen's Graphic Fairy delight. I thought this would be a perfect get together project for Katelyn too. You know Joyce, I never get tired of listening to this lovely song you have on your blog.

Have a wonderful day. I am going to go to the evening services for Karen. I didn't know if I would be awake enough for the afternoon ones, given my sleep patterns of late.

    Next art day soon please.
    Karen
